The Reverend Dr. Mike Ramey was installed as Senior Pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church on Sunday, November 23, 2014.
Pastor Ramey was born in Beaumont, Texas but was raised primarily in Newgulf, Texas. He graduated with honors from Boling High School and attended Concordia Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas, where he graduated with an A.A. in Religion. He attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska where he graduated with a B.A. in Church History. He attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri where he graduated with an M.Div. in Systematic Theology. He attended Trinity Theological Seminary in Newburgh, Indiana where he graduated with honor with a Th.D. in Systematic Theology.
Pastor Ramey met his wife, Laura (nee Heerten), at Concordia, Seward, and they were married in August 1980. They have been blessed with four children and four grandchildren.
Pastor Ramey has served The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod as vicar of Shepherd of the Lake in Garrison, Minnesota; pastor of Trinity/Zion Lutheran Churches in Campbell/Upland, Nebraska; mission developer/pastor of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska; mission developer/ pastor of The Family of Faith Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas; senior pastor of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Bel Air, Maryland; and now at Bethel. He additionally has served a Zone LWML Counselor, Circuit Counselor in the Texas District, Circuit Counselor in the Southeastern District, and was the Convention Chairman for the 2007 Synodical Convention in Houston, Texas.
Pastor Ramey's guide for ministry is summarized in his principle, "If it's all about Jesus, it's not about me...if it's all about me, it's not about Jesus."
Pastor Ramey served as Chaplain for the Army National Guard from 1987-1996.
